The practice of org design is far richer and more nuanced than described here. It is embodied starting in the machine paradigm of Adam Smith, then Taylorism (Frederick). Then Alfred Sloan and management accounting. Then moving into Deming and Toyota. And that is all last century.

I am afraid that this write up is only a partial history, and a partial description of some of the more modern aspects of Org design. It leaves out so much that has to be included, especially that related to systems thinking as an example.
